This is a term popularized by Tony Robbins in the early 1990s.
It means that you don't want to accidentally connect something you love with a traumatic experience.
For instance, if you're working through a trauma, you may not want to sit in your favorite chair while do so.
Else, you could come to inadvertently hate your favorite chair.
So, what to do? Answer: Sit in a different while you work through the trauma. That way, when goes back to something approaching normalcy, you can go back to your favorite chair and have the exact same feelings about it as you did prior to the trauma. Otherwise, you may have to live with sitting in that chair and feeling disgusted (and not understanding why) for a very long time.
