A1C
An A1C (glycated hemoglobin) test reflects your average blood glucose levels over the past three months and is a way of checking for diabetes.
Here’s how the numbers break down:
- Below 5.7%, and you’re considered “normal”
- Between 5.7% and 6.4%, and you’re “prediabetic”
- Test twice at 6.5% and higher, and you’re “diabetic”
Blood Glucose
Understanding what your fasting blood-glucose number means:
- If, after 8 hours of fasting (AKA a good night’s sleep), your blood glucose measures under 100 milligrams per deciliter (mg/dL), then you’re considered “normal”
- 100 to 124, and you’re “prediabetic”
- 125 and higher, and you’re “diabetic”
